A pink floating sheen along the shoreline of Center Lake drew the attention of the Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory, Warsaw Wastewater Utility, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department and Emergency Management Department Director Ed Rock this morning. At first, the departments weren’t sure what the pink goo was. By 11 a.m. today, Fire Chief Mike Wilson said they had stayed in contact with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management and Department of Natural Resources and early indication was that the pink substance was an ice algae. With the recent warm weather melting some of the lake ice, the algae made its way to the top of the water, officials said.
