Americans certainly are a peculiar lot. We have many people enraged over "the Messicans" coming here and taking our jobs, yet these same people think nothing of visiting their local Wal-Mart and filling their carts with substandard, sometimes lethal, Chinese made cheap, plastic crap. Things Americans used to make.
American corporations use taxpayer-funded research and development then ship the manufacturing of their products to overseas slave labor. Why is there no anger directed at the corporations that engage in these job-killing practices? The antiquated platitude of "no poor man ever created a job" should be updated to "the rich create jobs - then ship them overseas."
We have some that become apologetic at the thought of a mosque in close proximity to Ground Zero. These same people who claim moral superiority to everyone else said nearly a word about the abundance of porn shops in the same neighborhood. Does the Reich Wing hate Muslims more than pornography? The corporate media, while beating this story to death, have said nothing about the Ground Zero Memorial being constructed using Chinese made glass, thus depriving Americans of badly needed jobs.
For nearly a decade our political and religious leaders, aided and abetted by the corporate media, have demonized Muslims, stirring up a frenzy and xenophobia. When a Florida preacher takes their fear mongering seriously and threatens to burn the Quran, they all become aghast and indignant and refused to be held accountable or accept any culpability.
Then we have the faux patriots that bedeck their vehicles with flags and stickers, and beat their chests in patriotic fever. Yet less than 1 percent have actually inconvenienced themselves by serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. These same patriots damn with the fury of a thousand hells anyone that dare suggest they should pay increased taxes to pay for these useless wars. One might extrapolate that their patriotism ends where any personal sacrifice begins.
There are those that become hysterical at the unfolded claims of "health care rationing" and "death panels" yet fail to muster an ounce of compassion for the 50 million uninsured for which health care rationing is a reality. They whine about not being able to choose their doctor, when just "a" doctor would be a blessing for millions.I, too, would like my country back. I would like it back from the parasitic bloodsucking class that have been stealing from the working poor and middle class for 30 years. I fear Wall Street and Big Business far more than I fear al Qaida.
