Deborah Hohman and Darlene Bauman will bring their sled dogs, Cubby, a Samoyed, and Ariel, an Alaskan Malamute, along with their harnesses to the Warsaw Community Public Library Saturday at 11 a.m.
In addition, they will bring a miniature dog sled for the children to interact with.
A book on sled dogs will be read, followed by a discussion of the annual Iditarod race, which will be taking place the same day in Anchorage, Alaska.
Hohman and Bauman keep busy throughout the year presenting their program on the Iditarod race and sled dogs to various groups and organizations. In addition, Hohman visits the kindergarten class at Eisenhower Elementary every week with her Samoyed, Cubby.
Samoyeds originated and were developed in the Samoyed Tribe of Siberia, Russia. Known for their herding and hauling abilities, they were used initially to herd reindeer.
Malamutes are large sled dogs developed by the Malamute Tribe, native people of Alaska, and were used to haul heavy loads over long distances.
