Hundreds Of Students Experience Career DayMiddle schoolers filled Lakeview Middle School's gym Wednesday for the annual Kosciusko Career Expo put on by the Warsaw/Kosciusko County Chamber Of Commerce.

More than 800 students from Edgewood, Lakeview, Whitko, Milford, Wawasee, Tippecanoe Valley and Fairfield middle schools were on hand to learn about different careers.

Students were required to visit three booths and ask questions about those careers.

Students received information on salary, job and educational requirements as well as what the dress code is.

Warsaw Fire Department as well as the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department and Warsaw Police Department were popular stops for the kids.

"It was good to interact with our youth so they can have a positive perspective on law enforcement as opposed to some of the negative images they may get sometimes," said Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department Public Information Officer Chad Hill.

For first-year Chamber President Mark Dobson he was impressed not only by the students, but also the businesses' effort.

"I personally appreciated how much commitment the businesses gave in making it a success. I was really impressed with their commitment," said Dobson.

And this sort of event is becoming more rare.

"This is one of the only communities I know of that does an event like this. I think the commitment (businesses) are showing the kids is huge. I view this as a signature event for the community. I came away really excited with the event," said Dobson.

Besides the questions they were required to ask, many students came prepared with questions of their own.

"The questions the kids were asking were really in depth. They really came prepared. Ready to be engaged. I was really impressed by the youth of this community," said Dobson.

Teachers Credit Union was the sponsor of this year's event.
