Human Trafficking

Editor, Times-Union:
We have issues around the world that have been going on for years and years. Human trafficking is a big issue. It’s just like a modern form of slavery. Each ear 600,000 to 820,000 men, women and children are trafficked across the borders. Even though it’s not happening to you doesn’t mean it shouldn’t matter.
I’m sure you’ve heard of a man named Joseph Kony. If not, here’s what he does: Joseph Kony is a man who lives in Uganda. He invades children’s homes and kidnaps them. He turns children into his slaves, his soldiers, his puppets. Kony can make those children do just about anything. The sad thing is, it’s not just a few kids here and there, and it’s over 30,000 children who’ve been abducted.
Kony makes them do terrible things; some have had to kill their parents. Some children were turned into sex slaves, mostly girls. Children are lucky if they are able to escape. Joseph Kony is the best example of human trafficking. Joseph Kony isn’t the only one doing it, many other are, too. It is a serious issue that needs to be dealt with.
I am asking you to go out and get more informed of these issues. Educate yourself on human trafficking. You can go online to donate money to help stop human trafficking. Go online to www.polarisproject.org or www.tinyhandsinternational.org and donate money! Think about it, would you want that done to your children?
