The following is part two of my summary of foundational human rights. Part one of my summary appeared in the Oct. 22 edition of the Times-Union where I summarized the following rights: freedom of religion, freedom of dissent, freedom of thought and inquiry, freedom of movement and freedom of commerce.
Summary of Foundational Human Rights Continued
6. Freedom of Self-Defense - the right to take necessary and proper measures in protecting one's life, health, property and liberty from harmful actions perpetrated by common criminals, domestic tyrants or foreign invaders.
7. Freedom of assembly and association - the right to peacefully gather with others in public or private for a multitude of reasons or to voluntarily form and, or dissolve informal or formal non-violent political, business, religious and social relationships or organizations with others.
8. Freedom of communication - the right to express one's thoughts through speech, writing, typing, the arts and the various means of mass communication to others and, or to read, view, listen to, respond to or simply ignore the expressed thoughts of others without fear of punishment for or censorship of such activities by one's own government.
