HS Roundup: Valley Boys Tennis Takes 3-2 Win Over Maconaquah

BUNKER HILL – Tippecanoe Valley got wins at both doubles positions and at No. 3 singles to defeat host Maconaquah 3-2 in Three Rivers Conference boys tennis Wednesday. Dakota Parker and Garrett Feldman dropped just one game, in the second set, in winning their match at No. 1 doubles. Dylan Sponseller and Chris Schlipper won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles over Robert Dunham and Dawson Thompson. At No. 3 singles, the Vikings’ Eric Wright dropped just one game in the first set on his way to victory. The Vikings will play in the Knox Tournament Saturday. Valley Soccer Falls AKRON – Visiting Rochester got four goals in the first half on its way to a 6-0 win over Tippecanoe Valley in Three Rivers Conference boys soccer Wednesday. Viking goalkeeper Fabian Mar was credited with seven saves on the night, and Valley had seven shots on goal. The junior varsity match went to the Zebras, 4-0. Valley (2-7 overall, 4-0 TRC) will host Peru in a conference match at 5 p.m. today.
Zebras Down Whitko 4-1 SOUTH WHITLEY – After splitting the first two sets, Whitko’s Corey Hersha won a tiebreaker played in place of a third set at No. 2 singles. He claimed the Wildcats’ only win in a 4-1 loss to visiting Rochester in Three Rivers Conference play Wednesday evening. Bailey Platt narrowly lost a tiebreaker at No. 1 singles to the Zebra’s Justin Phoun. Whitko will travel to Manchester High School today, with first serve scheduled for 5 p.m. ROCHESTER 4, WHITKO 1 Singles: No. 1 – Justin Phoun (R) def. Triton Falls To Plymouth Using the round as a competition and as preparation for the sectional Saturday, Plymouth’s girls golf team beat Triton 202-241 at Stonehenge Golf Club Wednesday. The Lady Trojans were led by Kate Gardner’s 56 and Delaney Groves with a 58. Plymouth’s Katie Johnson was the medalist with a 43. Valley Sweeps LaVille AKRON – Abby Betten had 10 digs and eight kills, and Olivia Trippiedi had five aces in Tippecanoe Valley’s 25-17, 25-9, 25-12 non-conference volleyball win over LaVille Tuesday night. Taniesha Brown had 16 assists and Sophie Bussard had Valley’s only block in the match. In the junior varsity match, the Lady Vikings had seven digs and three aces from Marlea Myers in a 25-22, 25-12 win. Sarah Myers had five assists, and Hannah Jamsma had four kills. Now 12-6, Valley will host Manchester today in Three Rivers Conference play.
