NORTH MANCHESTER - More than 150 area high school students and their teachers will spend a day pondering climate change and global warming at the 2008 Rotary World Affairs Conference Thursday at Manchester College.Students from Tippecanoe Valley, Wabash, North Manchester, Columbia City, Warsaw, Huntington and Rochester high schools are registered to attend, sponsored by Rotary clubs in local communities. They are among hundreds of high school students who will gather at seven other northern Indiana sites for the annual conference.
Students will hear pre-recorded presentations by four climate experts at Purdue University, including the director of the Purdue Climate Change Research Center, whose research encompasses environmental policy, property rights, the impact of climate and land use on environmental and economic systems and the dynamics of atmospheric species.
Afterward, a panel of three Manchester College scientists will help the students digest what they have heard, then the students will break into small groups to discuss the presentations.
