Families from around Kosciusko County are invited to a free workshop from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday to learn ways to reduce energy bills in their homes. The workshop will be at the Kosciusko County Community Foundation building, 102 E. Market St., at the corner of Market and Buffalo streets in downtown Warsaw. A second workshop will be in Milford Dec. 1 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Housing Opportunities of Warsaw’s office, 109 W Catherine St., next to the library. To sign up for the workshop and a weatherization kit, call Housing Opportunities of Warsaw at 574-269-7641. Housing Opportunities of Warsaw will demonstrate products that can be used in the home to reduce air infiltration. There will be interactive activities to practice installing weatherization products and to learn how to assess one’s own home for energy savings. Each family that attends the workshop and signs up for a one-on-one home visit will receive a free Weatherization Kit valued at over $75. These kits include the various weatherization products demonstrated during the workshop. Aaron Lehman, Housing Opportunities of Warsaw associate director, will lead the workshop demonstrations and be available to answer participants’ questions. “Energy savings are important to affordable housing. It has become difficult for many Kosciusko residents to pay their bills during the winter. It’s HOW’s mission to keep homes safe and affordable,” Lehman said. The kits are funded by REMC Operation Round Up and United Way of Kosciusko County.
