Nappanee - Details of the proposed Pleasant Acres housing development that includes a contract between the city of Nappanee and the developer were discussed Monday during the town's board of works meeting.
The development will include 25 to 30 lots instead of the originally proposed 45 lots. The site is located on the southwest end of town near Randolph Street.
As part of the agreement, the city will provide infrastructure for the development. The city has agreed to provide the local share of a matching grant. That cost could be $100,000 or as much as $160,000. The grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce would be for about $300,000.
The developer, Housing Assistance Offices, South Bend, would be responsible for marketing the properties and monitoring residents to ensure they qualify.
The agreement could be finalized by next week,
In another matter, Nappanee officials will ask for the support of Kosciusko County for developing part of a bike trail. The trail is being organized through Michiana Area Chamber of Governments, but the path would extend into southern portions of the town that include Kosciusko County.
Officials are expected to discuss the issue at the Kosciusko County Commissioners meeting Sept. 2.
