Hotel Alcohol License Transfer Continued Due To Signage Issue

A transfer of the beer, wine and liquor license for Wyndham Garden hotel was continued from Thursday’s Alcohol and Tobacco Commission meeting to the Nov. 4 meeting because of signage.
When Rajesh Patel, representing Fortune 1 LLC, doing business as Wyndham Garden hotel, approached the Kosciusko County Alcohol Tobacco Commission, excise officer April Tackett asked him when and where he posted the “orange sign notice.” The notice, which is orange, lets the public know that a business is seeking a new alcohol license or a transfer of a license.
Patel said he never received the noticed so it was never posted.
“In order for your transfer of ownership even to be heard, you have to have your notice published, at least 10 days before your hearing,” Tackett said.
Patel asked if the notice was supposed to be provided by the state, county or someone else.
“It would be coming from the Alcohol and Tobacco Commission. When you paid for your $250 for the transfer of ownership, you should have also paid separate a $2 check for the orange sign. If you didn’t do that, they wouldn’t have sent it to you,” Tackett said.
Patel said he didn’t think that was done, so Tackett said the transfer hearing would have to be continued to the 1 p.m. Nov. 4 hearing. She reminded him that the sign has to be filled out and posted at least 10 days before the next hearing.
The alcohol license is being transferred from Bruce and Steve Shaffner.
