NAPPANEE – A horse-drawn buggy was flipped onto its side after being stuck by an oncoming vehicle Friday afternoon. According to a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department report, police responded at 4:58 p.m. Friday to a collision at the intersection of North CR 900W and Hepton Road in Nappanee. A vehicle driven by Todd R. Besson, 29, of North Port, Fla., reportedly traveled left of center on a curve and struck an approaching horse-drawn buggy. The report stated that the buggy flipped onto its side and the horse reigns snapped. The horse ran from the scene of the collision and Besson and the driver of the buggy proceeded after the horse on foot. Police later collected Besson’s insurance information and found that his policy was no longer active, though an insurance representative told police Besson had opened a new policy approximately 20 minutes after the collision was said to occur. The police concluded that Besson did not have insurance at the time of the accident. There were no injuries reported and information on the driver of the buggy was not provided.
