ELKHART COUNTY - A horse died Wednesday evening after a horse and buggy collided with a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado.
According to a crash news release from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office, the horse and buggy, driven by Leland R. Yoder, 74, Nappanee, was traveling north on CR 3, north of CR 52 when it was spooked by a combine in the field on the east side of CR 3. The horse and buggy crossed the center line, traveling into the southbound lane and into the path of the Silverado, driven by Joseph Thompson, 17, also of Nappanee.
Yoder was taken to Elkhart General Hospital for lacerations to the face, nose and arm. The horse died at the scene. Thompson was not injured.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:54 p.m.
The buggy sustained damages all over, and the Silverado had front-end damages.
