SYRACUSE - Hope Eileen Rapp, 76, of Pierceton, died at 5:10 a.m. July 6, 2009, in her residence.

She was born March 24, 1933, in Marion, to the Rev. Curtis C. and Ruth Shumaker Fruth. On April 11, 1954, in Indianapolis, she married Leroy R. Rapp, who survives.

She graduated from Garfield High School, Terre Haute, in 1950; received bachelor's of science and arts degrees from Indiana Central College, Indianapolis, and a master's degree from Indiana/Purdue University, Fort Wayne. She moved to Pierceton from Indianapolis in June 1970. She started the curriculum library and served as the librarian at the University of Indianapolis from 1961-71; taught math and English at Whitko Community School Corp. from 1971-88; then joined forces with Wycliffe Bible Translators, where she taught math and English at Ukarumpa High School, Papua New Guinea for two years and Faith Academy Middle School, Davao, Philippines for two years. She was a member of North Webster Church of God, where she was active in the Tuesday morning Bible study; taught Sunday School for many years; founded the Bible Mountaineer Wednesday Evening Kids Program; served on the Evangelism Visitation Outreach ministry; and was former secretary of the Pastoral Search Committee.

Also surviving are a daughter, Sharon (and spouse David) Matti, Milford; a son, Chuck (and spouse Pam) Rapp, Brownsburg; six grandchildren; and a great-grandson. She was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at North Webster Church of God with Pastor Jeff Boyer officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Syracuse.
