'Hoops For Riley' Set Feb. 11Student Body President Graeme Haase set a goal this year for Warsaw Community High School to become a Miracle School.

Attendees at the Feb. 11 boys basketball game versus Plymouth in the Tiger Den can help make that goal a reality. It will be "Hoops for Riley" night at the game.

The junior varsity team starts at 6:15 p.m., with the varsity game following.

A Miracle School is a school that raises at least $1 for every student in the school for Riley Hospital for Children.During a student council state convention several months ago, Haase said a Riley representative gave a presentation about how schools can become a Miracle School. Haase said making WCHS a Miracle School became one of his goals this school year as student body president.

So far, Haase said, the school has raised about half of what they need to become a Miracle School. WCHS has about 2,000 students so the high school needs to raise at least $2,000 this year. The "Hoops for Riley" event, Haase said, will help them meet their goal.

During the Feb. 11 basketball game, paper basketballs will be sold for $1 each. People can sign the paper basketballs, which then will be put up around the gym. Donations will be sought throughout the game.

WCHS also is teaming up with Hacienda to raise money for Riley. Hacienda has donated 30 shirts to be sold at the game on a first-come, first-serve basis. The back of the shirt says Hacienda, with the Warsaw Tiger emblem on the front. Haase said the shirts will be sold for $10 each.

The cheerblock also is having a "neon night" Feb. 11 to help raise money for Riley. Some students will be wearing Riley shirts and collecting donations. Haase said he will be selling glow sticks with all the proceeds going to Riley.

"Eventually," said Haase, "we're hoping to become a Miracle Corporation" in the long run. To become a Miracle Corporation, the entire Warsaw School Corp. would need to raise $1 for every student in grades kindergarten through 12th grade, or more than $6,000.

A "Dance for Riley" is planned for the high school in March, Haase said.

"Hopefully, between this game and the dance, we'll meet our goal," said Haase.
