Honeywell House Presents Discussion On Historic Preservation

Posted
WABASH – The Honeywell House in Wabash will host “A Discussion on Historic Preservation and Community Redevelopment with Lisa Gilman” at 7 p.m. Sept. 24.
Gilman, who has directed community redevelopment in a number of Indiana and Michigan cities, will discuss her career, specifically regarding her current project involving two downtown Wabash properties. Corporate sponsor for the event is First Merchants Bank; Bill and Carole Konyha are individual sponsors.
Gilman, known for her impact during the past 25 years in a variety of cities, including the Indiana cities of Indianapolis, South Bend, Elkhart, Columbia City, Linton, Sullivan, Warsaw, Goshen, and Michigan towns of Cass City, Pigeon, Greenville, Marlette, Niles and St. Joseph, focuses on housing development for low income persons with various needs and property restoration.
Most recently, Gilman, through Redemption Development LLC, has acquired two buildings in Wabash located at 41 and 47 W. Market St., which used to house the Hallmark Store. She purchased the properties in June 2012 and began a complete historic restoration, including removing the false façade that was applied more than 50 years ago. The end result, expected to be completed this fall, will house two apartments on the upper level of each building, with commercial space on the first floor.
This is a free event, but reservations are required for the limited seating presentation. To make reservations, call 260-563-2326.
The Honeywell House is the former home of Mrs. Mark C. Honeywell and now operated as a cultural house museum in Wabash. The house is owned and operated by the Honeywell Foundation, a non-profit organization that also operates the Honeywell Center and Eagles Theatre.
