Homestead AwardsOn Aug. 10 at the Indiana State Fair Grounds, the Whetstone Farm of Mentone was awarded the Centennial and Sesquicentennial Hoosier Homestead Awards. Established in 1842 as the George Sarber farm, it was passed on for five generations: to Fay Sarber, who then married Carl Whetstone. Her sons, Michael L., Timothy (sixth generation) and grandson Scott Whetstone (seventh generation) continue the farming traditions. Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch and Bruce Kettler, Indiana Department of Agriculture, presented the awards.
