Homer W. Campbell, 92, died at 6:05 a.m. June 11, 2012, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw.
He was born Dec. 14, 1919, in Warsaw, to Harry and Lucinda Sample Campbell. On Jan. 29, 1939, in Leesburg, he married Janice Parson, who survives.
He entered in the U.S. Navy Oct. 11, 1944, in Indianapolis, serving during World War II. AMM 3c Homer W. Campbell was honorably discharged March 3, 1949, at Great Lakes, Ill. A lifetime Kosciusko County residence, he was an electrician for Koontz-Wagner Electric Co. for more than 20, years retiring Jan. 1, 1982. He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, Atwood; Warsaw Masonic Lodge 73; Fort Wayne Scottish Rite; and Warsaw Veterans of Foreign Wars; and a 61-year member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 153. He built their home in his spare time. His children recall going with him to Banty’s Hardware for ice cream and to Elden Pike’s gas station. He was a bee keeper at one time and while working for Wolford Electric, he wired The Flag Pole Custard Stand. He and Janice enjoyed traveling together and went to the World’s Fair. He drove to Alaska in their Ford pickup truck/camper, camping as they went. He was a CB radio operator with a base in the kitchen of their home and his handle was Watermelon Man.
Also surviving are two daughters, Sharilyn (and spouse James) Anthony, Clearwater, Fla., and Nancy Marks, Cocoa Beach, Fla.; a son, Daniel (and spouse Linda) Campbell, Fort Wayne; two grandchildren, Kristi (and spouse Rick) Harding, San Diego, Calif.; and Kimberly (and spouse Shawn) Patterson, Fort Wayne; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers; two sisters; and a grandson, Blake Stevens.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Titus Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Jerry Thomas of Otterbein United Methodist Church, Atwood, and with military honors by members of Warsaw’s American Legion Post 49 and VFW Post 1126. Burial will be in Harrison Center Cemetery, Etna Green.
