Homer E. Bachtel

 SYRACUSE – Homer E. Bachtel, 83, Syracuse, passed away Dec. 29, 2014, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. He was born Feb. 6, 1931, in Mishawaka, to Merrell and Martha Overholser Bachtel. On Dec. 23, 1950, he married Mabel Rarig, who preceded him in death in 2011. He was a lifelong area resident. He retired as a machinist for Whitley Products, Pierceton. Surviving are his two daughters, Donna Hrynewycz, Syracuse, and Judy (and spouse Stan) Thomas, Syracuse; a son, Robert (and spouse Judy) Bachtel, Syracuse; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a sister and a brother. Services will be at noon Friday at Eastlund Funeral Home. Burial is in Syracuse Cemetery.
