Homemakers Hold Achievement Night

More than 200 Extension Homemaker members recently met at the Center Lake Pavilion for the annual Achievement Night program.

Mary Beth Camden was chairperson for the event. The committee served the salad bar meal, which was contributed by each club. Eleanor Watkins led the pledge to the flag and homemakers creed. Peggy Parzygnot introduced several "Host a Hoosier" guests from Miami County, and Ramona Huber with the Michigan City District and her husband.

The County Extension Chorus, under the direction of Dan Beam, entertained the group. The chorus is supported in part by the Extension Homemaker organization.

A style show featured garments made by several homemakers. Marsha Miller was the overall winner of the event.

Alice Schooley read memorials for deceased members Dorah Ryman, Delight Polk, Winifred Howe, Bernice Anglin and Esther English.

Diane Wagley reported that more than 300 stuffed puppy pillows and bears were made and given to county EMS and police departments to use in their contacts with children.

Joan Younce, Extension educator, recognized clubs with awards for achievement. Receiving Gold Club honors were: Club 55, Herscher Homemakers, Merry Tones, Rural Neighbors and Tippecanoe Township. Several other clubs were awarded silver and bronze certificates.

Fifty-year members honored included Marilyn Yohey, Ruth Tucker, Edna Lawson, Marilyn Hartman and Juanita Allen.

Mary Beth Camden received a cut glass bowl for receiving the Homemaker of the Year award. She was nominated by her club, Rural Neighbors.

Parzygnot, outgoing president, presented the Indian Extension Homemaker president's pin to Julia Frush, who presented a gift to Parzygnot in appreciation of her service.

Kosciusko County IEHA consists of 32 clubs with 373 members. The mission of Indiana Extension Homemakers is to strengthen families through continuing education, leadership development and volunteer community support. For more information, call the Extension Office at 574-372-2340.
