A Winona Lake man is facing a misdemeanor public nudity charge after he was allegedly caught taking a shower behind Staples.
Larry Duane Potts, 40, of 1202 Wooster Road, #13, Winona Lake, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 10:53 p.m. Tuesday and faces a Class C misdemeanor charge for public nudity.
According to the police report filed in the case on Aug. 21 in Kosciusko Superior Court II, on Aug. 10 police responded to a report of a man taking a shower behind Staples.
A group of children walking in the area told 911 they stumbled upon the man. Upon arrival, the children spoke to police who said that they went around the corner of the building and one of the female children saw a naked man. One of the male children told police he wanted to beat Potts up because he was mad his sister saw Potts naked. Police told the children to move away from the scene, according to the report.
When police spoke with Potts, Potts said he was homeless and was using a gallon jug of water that he had with him to bathe behind the building. Potts said when the female came around the side, he told her he was trying to bathe and then he tried to hide behind an electrical box. Potts also told police that the children refused to leave the area and they began to threaten him.
According to the report, the children began making jokes about Potts’ body and police told Potts to leave the area to prevent a fight from breaking out.
Potts told police that he never intended for anyone to see him bathing in the open grassy area and that once he realized people had, he put his clothes back on.
