Mary Schulien's letter says everything a lot of us feel. A homeless shelter downtown makes the most compassionate sense.
Homeless isn't who they are - it's where they are, for now.
Our county has always been blessed with residents who are giving of their time, food, coats and providing shelter should be the logical next step. Would you be happier if they just stayed in makeshift tents behind Kmart, as they do now? Men, women and children ... families.
Hard times, yes. Let's not be hard nosed ... We're all blessed it's not us, because it could be. My children and I have been living with my mother these last five years. We're very blessed and thankful.
I may not have much to spend but I can tell you this: What I do spend will not be spent at any of the businesses on the petition. What I will do is pray ... That you open your hearts and minds to this glorious opportunity to show the downtrodden exactly what Jesus would do.
