Home Tours In Manchester

Posted

Rescued, restored, renovated. These words describe six homes and the former Carnegie public library featured on the 1997 Holiday Tour of Homes sponsored by the North Manchester Historical Society, from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Dec. 7.

The homes were built from 1858 to 1912 and represent folk Victorian, arts and crafts, Greek revival, farm house and gothic/Italianate architectural styles. Each will be decorated in Christmas finery.

Included in this year's tour are Steve and Debbie Dotson, 205 W. Fourth St.; Gaye Eckert, 202 W. Second St.; Charlie and Karen Macke, 111 S. Elm St.; Rose Mary Olinger, 202 S. Maple St.; Robert and Marie Quick, 203 N. Mill St.; Rob and JoLynn Robison, 505 N. Sycamore St.; and Daggett Schlitt and Stoops Law Office, 204 W. Main St.

Musicians will entertain throughout the afternoon. Carolers from Manchester High School will sing at the Daggett Schlitt and Stoops law office, Joyce Frye will play the dulcimer at the Eckerts, Karen Eberly will perform on the dulcimer and Heide Gross on flute at the Olingers, and a small group of instrumentalists from the high school will entertain at the new public library. Karen Macke will play her grandmother's old organ at the Macke's home.

The purpose of the biennial Holiday Tour of Homes is to collect historical information about North Manchester homes and to raise funds for Historical Society projects.

Tickets will be available the day of the tour at the North Manchester Public Library, Fourth and Market streets, for $6. A continuous slide presentation of homes featured on past tours will be shown and refreshments will be offered.
