Hocking and Hocking LLC was presented a facade grant Friday from Main Street Warsaw for $7,060.65.
Faye and Jim Hocking are owners of the building at 108 E. Market St., Warsaw. Faye said they put in put new windows on the second floor of the building recently.
Rob Parker, executive director of MSW, said there were some leakage on some of the old windows that was also taken care of with the window upgrades. Faye said the facade grant covered about half of the cost of the work done.
Faye said they’re looking forward to finishing up the upstairs of the building as they’re planning on putting in apartments on the second floor of the building. Jim said there may be two or three apartments on the second floor of the building. Faye said they’re taking the plans step by step at the moment and are still in the planning stage.
The funds for the facade grants come from the city of Warsaw, but Main Street Warsaw manages them.
The facade grant program started over 20 years ago when the Hyett Palma Study recommended it. When it started out, grants were maximized at $5,000 and a total of $25,000 was awarded.
When Doyle Hyett and Dolores Palma returned in 2023 to do another study, they recommended the city increase the facade grant and the city doubled the amount to a total of $50,000 with grants of up to a maximum of $10,000 each.
