A hit and run accident Wednesday night escalated into a police chase through Warsaw, ending with the suspect being tased and apprehended by an officer.
Brian O. Ivey, 29, of 1905 Sand Dollar Drive, Warsaw, faces charges of resisting law enforcement using a vehicle, resisting law enforcement on foot, driving without a license, failure to stop after an accident and parole violation. He was booked into Kosciusko County Jail with a $5,250 bond.
At approximately 6 p.m. Wednesday, Warsaw Police were notified of a vehicle that had left the scene of an accident near downtown Warsaw. Officers found a red Chevrolet Trailblazer near Ind. 30 and Ind. 15 that matched the description of the vehicle that left the scene, according to a release from WPD.
An officer attempted to stop the Trailblazer, which then fled. A short pursuit ensued, traveling eastbound on Anchorage Road, crossing Ind. 30 and eventually turning south on Husky Trail.
The driver then jumped out of the moving vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. The officer chased the suspect, giving loud verbal commands that were ignored, according to the release. When the suspect tripped and continued to flee, the officer deployed his Taser and the suspect finally complied without further incident.
The investigation determined that Ivey was wanted for a felony parole violation out of Georgia and had no valid driver’s license.
The victim’s vehicle that Ivey struck sustained less than $2,500 in damage. The Trailblazer that Ivey jumped out of continued southbound on Husky Trail until it struck a guardrail, resulting in under $10,000 in damage, the release states. No injuries were reported.
Warsaw Police were assisted by the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, Winona Lake Police Department and Lutheran EMS Kosciusko.
