The Kosciusko County Historical Society has received a $22,000 grant from the 1st Source Bank as trustee of the Esther Pfleiderer Charitable Trust.

The funds will be used to preserve and microfilm approximately 1,200 Kosciusko County assessor record books dated from 1860 to 1957.

The grant was written by Marjorie Priser, project director.

The massive project started with volunteers who sequentially numbered more than 105,000 pages for filming.

The books are being microfilmed by Information and Records Associates, South Bend.

After the filming process is complete, the books are returned to the archives. Selected years will be alphabetically indexed by surname.

As each township isindexed there will be a paper copy of the document placed in the library.

The indexes will be available on the Internet at www.rootsweb.com/~inkosciu
