Warsaw's Hire Park needs a new building to house registration offices, concessions and the new restrooms.
The request, represented by Hire Park track president Richard Kellstrom, was taken under advisement by the Warsaw Park Board at Tuesday's meeting.
Kellstrom presented three reasons for building a new 32-foot by 40-foot pole barn building: the current buildings are too small, the current registration and concession building is deteriorating due to vandalism and age and the new building will improve the park.
Kellstrom said the Hire Park BMX track has been chosen by the National Bicycle League from Columbus, Ohio, as a site of more national events on a regular basis.
"This is another thing that would invite people to Warsaw," said Kellstrom.
Cost of the building is estimated to be $5,000. The track is currently doing a fund-raising campaign to pay for this. Eagle Cement is donating the cement and the labor will be donated by the Hire Park Volunteers.
The cost of the restrooms will be approximately $1,746. Kellstrom requested the board's involvement in paying for the restrooms.
In other business:
Pike Lake campground was inspected Aug. 2 by the State Department of Health. They had a few concerns about water and sewer separation and dumping stations.
The inspector will return Thursday at 9:30 a.m. The Parks Department has until August 2002 to make corrections.
"There are some issues that need answering," said Parks Director Jon Garber.
The project for painting and guttering the Center Lake Pavilion is finishing up. The project cost approximately $14,400. Hoosier Guttering is fixing the holes in the gutters.
Garber discussed two Eagle Scout projects. One has already been finished. Ryan Muensch's group made cushion material for the playground equipment area.
The other project will begin this week. Zach Woodward's group will building a fire pit area by the amphitheater.
The board discussed roof repair on the Pete Thorn Youth Center. The building is 20 years old and the senior activities center is the only portion of the building that hasn't had its roof repaired in those 20 years.
"It needs to be replaced," said Garber.
The Parks Department will send quotes to the Board of Works on Monday.
The Warsaw Parks Board members are: president Toby Sumpter; vice president John Sadler; Don Clemens; Bob Richmond; Cathy Folk, school board representative; and Jeff Grose, city council representative.
