Highway Worker Hurt In Crash

An Indiana Department of Transportation worker was in critical condition this morning after an accident Wednesday afternoon in a construction zone on U.S. 30.

According to an Indiana State Police report, a preliminary investigation indicates that Michael D. Garcia, 29, of North CR 200W, North Manchester, failed to yield the right-of-way to a semi tractor/trailer driven by Willliam A. Harris, 46, of Remington.

Garcia reportedly pulled out from CR 500W onto U.S. 30 in the 1:49 p.m. accident. The pickup he was driving was struck in the driver's side, trapping him in the wreckage.

Garcia suffered multiple injuries and was airlifted from the scene to Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.

ISP was assisted at the scene by personnel from the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, Warsaw Fire Department, Multi-Township Emergency Medical Service, Samaritan and Parkview Hospital.
