Parker, Lakeland Christian Rolls Past Oregon-Davis

WINONA LAKE ­– Parker Stewart scored five goals and assisted on another to lead Lakeland Christian Academy to a 7-0 win over visiting Oregon-Davis in a boys soccer match Saturday.

Aiden McQuade and Garret McKeever scored the other goals for the Cougars. Brayden Lane had assists on the first two goals, and Nate Reimink also recorded an assist.

"(It was a) solid start to our season. We have a lot of new faces this year, and this was a good confidence builder,” said LCA head coach Dan Miller. “Parker Stewart controlled the midfield from the opening whistle. Landon Paris held us together defensively to help ensure the shutout win."

The Cougars get their first road test at 5 p.m. Tuesday, traveling to Elkhart Christian for a Northern Indiana Soccer Conference match.

Warsaw Win Dual Match With Chesterton

WINONA LAKE – Marie Frazzetta and Grayson Kilburn each shot 89, leading Warsaw to a 374-391, 18-hole girls golf win over Chesterton Saturday at Stonehenge Golf Club.

Other scores for the Tigers were Delaney Byron, 95; Sydney Lancaster, 101; and Brooklyn Fitzgerald, 107.

Warsaw (4-0) travels to  Norwood Golf Course to take on Huntington North on Wednesday with a 5 p.m. start time.







Warriors 2nd, Whitko 6th at Wawasee Invitational

SYRACUSE – Wawasee finished second to Northridge and Whitko took sixth place at the Wawasee Invitational girls golf tournament Saturday at South Shore Golf Club in Syracuse. Northridge’s team score of 340  for the 18-hole tourney was 23 shots better than Wawasee. Whitko’s 399 beat Elkhart Memorial by four shots for the sixth slot.

The Warriors were led by Belle Brunner, who finished fifth in the individual competition with a 6-over par 78. Other Wawasee scores were Jadison Rostochak, 89; Tate Cowan, 91; Ava Harker, 105 and Valerie Haessig, 106.

Whitko’s Augusta Garr led her team with a 90, Guinny Garr shot a 99, Bailey Wright shot 100, and Summer West finished the scoring with a 110.

Northridge’s Braedyn O’Dell was the medalist with a 73.

Concord was third at 366, Columbia City fourth at 369, and Goshen ninth at 459.

Wawasee returns to action today, hosting West Noble at Maxwelton at 4:30 p.m. Whitko hosts Northfield in Three Rivers Conference play at 4:30 p.m. today.



Kissel Medalist At Wabash County Tourney

WABASH – Manchester’s Samantha Kissell was the medalist at the Wabash County girls golf tournament Saturday at Honeywell Golf Club in Wabash.

Kissell shot an 82 to win the tournament. Other Manchester scores were Alissa Bickerstaff, 108; Kayla Hippensteel, 118; Delani Henderson, 127; and Chaynee Tennant, 130.

“So proud of Samantha Kissell today and how well she regrouped from some struggles on the front to win the tournament,: Squire head coach Josh Troyer said. “The whole team showed some great improvements and reasons to be excited for the coming weeks. We shot season low 9-hole scores on both sides today which is another reason to look forward to the coming weeks for our team.”

Wabash won the team title.

Manchester next plays at 4:30 p.m. Thursday when it hosts Fort Wayne Canterbury and Triton at Sycamore Golf Club in North Manchester.



Wawasee VB Opens Season With Win Over Bremen

SYRACUSE – In a tough, five-game match, Wawasee opened its volleyball season with a 21-25, 25-19, 25-14, 23-25, 16-14 non-conference win over visiting Bremen at the Hardwood Tepee Saturday.

Molly Jones had eight kills and four blocks for Wawasee. Ashley Vazquez added seven aces and Leslie Vazquez 17 digs.

The junior varsity match went to Wawasee 25-20, 25-11 over the Lions. In the freshman match, Wawasee dropped the first game before coming back to claim a 21-25, 25-12, 15-10 win.

Wawasee will play at Tippecanoe Valley in a non-conference match Tuesday.
