Staff Report-
SYRACUSE – Wawasee High School junior Noella Beck is serving an early childhood development internship during the winter trimester at Teen Parents Succeeding in Syracuse. The internship is through WHS’s Professional Career Internship Program. While serving at TPS, Noella works under the supervision of Trish Miller, coordinator of the high school's Work-Based Programs, and TPS Lead Caregiver Margaret Grady. In addition to serving as an intern, Beck and her young daughter also participate in the TPS program. “I began looking into the TPS program last summer. I liked what I saw and became interested in serving an internship to earn classroom credit,” Beck said. While learning new job skills, her internship also allows her to spend extra time with her daughter at TPS which she says is “an added bonus." Beck plans to graduate early from high school next year and attend college to pursue a nursing degree. Beck and her daughter, Adalynn, live in Syracuse with her family. In her spare time, she enjoys playing softball and crocheting scarves. TPS Director Janet Weirick stated, “We welcome Noella as an intern to TPS. Her service is a valuable asset to our staff." Founded in 1991, Teen Parents Succeeding is a non-profit support organization that helps teenage parents in the Wawasee School District stay in school and complete their education. In addition to other support services, TPS operates a licensed childcare facility that provides low cost childcare to student parents while they attend school and work. More information on TPS can be obtained online at www.teenparentssucceeding.org or by calling 574-457-3541.
