Tippecanoe Valley Girls Tennis Edges TRC Foe Whitko
AKRON – Tippecanoe Valley had wins at No. 3 singles and both doubles positions to get a 3-2 win over visiting Whitko in Three Rivers Conference girls tennis Wednesday.
The Vikings’ Tiphanie Hodge and Makenna Bradley improved to 13-1 on the season at No. 1 doubles with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Jaycie Thomas and Kylie Fugett. Valley’s Kaitlin Neese and Haley Baker blanked Abigail Metz and Bailey Wright 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles. Hannah Engstrand beat Whitko’s Katherine Ousley 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.
Whitko’s two wins came from Kayla Schipper, 6-0, 6-0 over Makenzie Costello at No. 1 singles, and Mahkinsey Myers won a three-set match 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 over Valley’s Hannah Parson at No. 2 singles.
Whitko is scheduled to host Whitko today, while Valley travels to greater Wabash to take on Southwood.
NLC Tennis Tournament Underway At Concord
DUNLAP – The first round of the Northern Lakes Conference girls tennis tournament was completed Wednesday at Concord High School, with Warsaw’s two doubles team the lone winners from the Times-Union coverage area.
At No. 1 doubles, Warsaw’s Rachel Yeager and Raegan Merchant beat Kaitlin Graber and Molly Jones of Wawasee. The Tigers’ Amy Herendeen and Maddie Ray won 6-0, 6-0 over Wawasee’s Abby Morehead and Tate Cowan at No. 2 doubles.
At No. 1 singles, Alyssa Zellers of Warsaw fell in straight sets to Regan Landis of Concord, as did Kendra Doerr of Wawasee to Reegan Miller of NorthWood.
In the No. 2 singles position, Warsaw’s Taylor Shoaf lost to Alex Jesse of NorthWood, while Northridge’s Bryne Gayler needed a first-set tiebreaker in her win over Wawasee’s Peyton Rookstool.
Gretchen Adams of NorthWood beat Warsaw’s Rachel Boyle at No. 3 singles, and Goshen’s Madi Rittenhouse topped Wawasee’s Elizabeth Kleopher.
The second round, in both the championship and consolation brackets, is scheduled for today.
Valley Falls In TRC Baseball
PERU – Lucas Walters had two hits for Tippecanoe Valley, and Tanner Trippiedi, Payton Mills, Tucker Shull and Ethan Yates each had a base hit in the Vikings’ 7-5 Three Rivers Conference baseball loss at Peru Wednesday.
Valley will host Wabash in TRC play Friday.
Raider Baseball Cruises Over Warriors
MIDDLEBURY – Host Northridge scored in every inning en route to a 14-6 Northern Lakes Conference baseball win over Wawasee Wednesday.
Wawasee did have five runs in the fifth inning to cut its deficit to 9-6 at one point.
Wawasee will host Plymouth in a NLC?bout Friday.
Wildcat Softball Blanked
WABASH – Visiting Whitko was held to three singles in its 4-0 Three Rivers Conference softball loss at Wabash Wednesday.
The Wildcats (8-3) will host Maconaquah Monday.
