The Warsaw softball team dropped both games of a home doubleheader Saturday against South Bend St. Joseph. In the opening 14-3, five-inning loss, Warsaw got just four hits, with juniors Karly Jones and Julia Smith getting RBIs. Losing the second game 10-6, Warsaw was led by seniors Whitney Sleeth, Kara Dishman and Kaleigh Speicher, as all three posted two hits. Junior Sidney Hernandez had two RBIs in the Game 2 loss.

Saturday in Fulton
The Tippecanoe Valley softball team won Saturday’s Caston Invitational, defeating Argos 11-2, then Caston 15-3 in five innings. Against Argos, Danielle Adams and Robyn Dunnuck each hit a double and drove in a run. In the championship game, Kassidy Shepherd, Katie Gunter and Abby Betten each had two hits, with Shepherd and Dunnuck also driving in two runs each. The 12-12 Lady Vikings face Wawasee today in the first round of Class 3A Sectional 21 at Fairfield.

Friday night at Tippecanoe Valley, the Warsaw softball used a big game from senior Ashley Ousley to win 10-3. Ousley went 4 for 5 in the win, driving in two runs and hitting a triple and a home run. Senior Whitney Sleeth got the win against her former team, going all seven innings, striking out six and allowing one earned run.

At Saturday’s Tiger Tourney, the host Warsaw baseball team defeated DeKalb 5-4 in the first round, but fell to Penn 11-6 in the championship game. Against DeKalb, Warsaw trailed 4-2 going into the bottom of the seventh, but plated three to get the win. Against DeKalb, Justin Oberlin had two hits. Warsaw faces Northridge in the semifinals of Sectional 4, Saturday at Elkhart Memorial.

Saturday in South Whitley
The Whitko baseball team picked up a pair of wins Saturday at home against Prairie Heights. After winning the first game of the doubleheader, 4-3, Whitko came back and got the second, 8-3. Facing extra innings in Game 1, Tanner Gaff drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh. That run was scored by Ethan Nicodemus, who went 3 for 3 in the game. Nicodemus stayed hot in the second game, going 2 for 3, as did Avery Robbins.

RUGBY
Saturday in Fishers
The Warsaw Area Rugby Clubs both picked up semistate victories Saturday in Fishers. Advancing to this Saturday’s state championship in Elkhart, the Warsaw boys team defeated Angola 44-0 and the girls downed Penn 22-17. The state championship matches will be held at the Moose Rugby Grounds in Elkhart. The girls will face North Central in the Division I finals at 12:30 p.m. and the boys will take on Pike at 10 a.m. in the Division II title game.
