Warrior Wrestlers Finish 4-1 At Its December Duals
SYRACUSE – Wawasee won its first four wrestling matches Saturday at its December Duals tournament, but suffered its first loss of the season, 32-29 to Northridge, in the Warriors’ last match of the day.
The Warriors had a 70-12 win over John Glenn, won 47-18 over Plymouth, beat Heritage 71-3 and dropped Angola 66-9 earlier in the day.
Jace Alexander (106 pounds), Chris Schuller (120), Braxton Alexander (126), Germia Brooks (132) and Elisha Tipping (285) each won all five of their matches.
Wawasee will wrestle in the IHSWCA Team State tournament in Fort Wayne on Saturday.
Wawasee Gymnasts Open Season
LAPORTE – Wawasee opened its gymnastics season Saturday at the LaPorte Pairs meet.
Aundreya Wegener and Alyssa Minnix finished as the top duo for the Lady Warriors, finishing fifth in the beam, eighth in the bars and 10th in the vault. The teammates finished 11th overall.
Reagan Atwood and Meghan Beer took seventh in the vault. Katelyn Baker and Jada Parzygnot were 13th in the floor exercise.
“Our first meet of the season went well,” Wawasee coach Nika Prather said. “It’s good to get one under our belt. Now we can prepare for the Blazer Invite.”
The Blazer Invitational will be hosted by Elkhart Central on Dec. 30.
Valley Breaks Even At LaVille Tourney
LAKEVILLE – Tippecanoe Valley went 2-2-1 at the LaVille Invitational wrestling tournament Saturday. The Vikings won 54-12 over Bremen and 60-0 over Mishawaka Marian, lost 53-28 to South Bend St. Joseph and 51-28 to Triton, and tied 60-60 with host LaVille.
Haley Hoover went 5-0 at 106 pounds for Valley, and Haylee Brown was 2-0 at 120. Jordan Owens was 5-0 at 145 and Jon Humes did likewise at 152 as did Isaac Randall at 170. Luis Castillo was 4-1 at 138.
Seth Hoffman won three matches at 132, as did Chevy Teeter at 160. Joseph Irons (182) and Ian Becker (220) won two matches each.
Results from Triton were not available at press time.
Both Triton and Valley will compete in the Rochester Invitational on Friday.
