NEW HAVEN — The 20th-ranked Warsaw girls cross country team finished third at Saturday’s New Haven Invitational, while the 20th-ranked Whitko boys team finished fourth in the Class 3A division.

In the girls 3A race, Warsaw junior Ashley Erba kept her perfect season in tact with another winning time of 18:12, while sophomore Anna Bearss was once again right behind her, finishing second in 18:43.

On the boys side, Whitko’s Trapper Mize placed 12th in 16:32, with teammate Jude Stieglitz finished 19th in 16:39.

Other area teams at the invitational were Tippecanoe Valley, whose boys and girls each placed 17th in the 2A division.

The Whitko girls finished 15th in the 2A division.

Saturday in Culver
The 16th-ranked Warsaw boys cross country team finished 17th at Saturday’s Culver Academies Invitational, but the freshman/sophomore team won its division. With the team being split up between for the the freshman/sophomore and junior/senior race, sophomore Ellis Coon finished fifth (16:45) in his race, while junior Jacob Poyner placed 12th (15:58) in the older division). The Tigers take on Wawasee Tuesday at Miller Field on the campus of Grace College.

The Lakeland Christian Academy boys soccer team defeated Faith Christian 1-0 Saturday in Winona Lake. In the victory, which improved LCA’s record to 8-7, the Drew Nieveen netted the goal on an assist from Andrew Palladino. The Cougars travel to Culver Tuesday to take on the Culver Military Academy Eagles.

Saturday in Elkhart
Warsaw’s Keaton Joyner earned a Northern Lakes Conference championship at No. 3 singles Saturday at the Eastlake Athletic Club in Elkhart. Moving to an indoor facility because of rain, Joyner defeated Northridge’s Josh Garfein 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 to help Warsaw place second overall at the tournament, tied with Plymouth. Based on their showing conference tournament, coupled with their regular season NLC record, the Tigers finished tied with Plymouth for second place in the conference. The Concord Minutemen were named conference championship.

The Warsaw volleyball team went 3-1 at its Tiger Invitational Saturday, defeating Prairie Heights, Fort Wayne North Side and Class 2A No. 8 Southwood, but fell to Class 2A No. 1 Muncie Burris. On the day, Jamie Lacheta led the Lady Tigers with 36 kills, while Chloe Hubner had 104 assists and Alex Sanchez had 67 digs. The 17-6 Lady Tigers travel to Fort Wayne Snider Tuesday.
