SOUTH WHITLEY — The Whitko boys tennis team dropped a Three Rivers Conference match at home Wednesday to Wabash, 4-1.

In the team loss, Whitko’s Blake Castle and Seth Patrick defeated Stephen Eilts and J.D. Boone at No. 1 doubles 6-0, 4-6, 6-1.

On the four other courts, Whitko won just six games, as Tyler Baugher fell 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 singles and the No. 2 doubles team of Urian Bailey and Tyler Pottenger lost 6-0, 6-3.

The Whitko Wildcats are back on the courts Monday at home, hosting Churubusco.

The first round of the Northern Lakes Conference Championships have come and gone, and the all Warsaw competitors have advanced. The opening round of the conference tournament was held Tuesday at Concord, with winners advancing on to today’s semifinals back at Concord. In opening round action, Warsaw’s Kyle Wettschurack, Evan Miller and Keaton Joyner won at No. 1, 2 and 3 singles, respectively. At doubles, Warsaw’s A.J. Herendeen and Sam Rice won at No. 1 and the team of A.J. Jansen and Connor Singrey were victorious at No. 2. The Wawasee Warriors also competed but failed to advance anyone. Winners from today’s action will advance on to Saturday’s finals round, which will also be held at Concord High School.

The 16th-ranked Warsaw boys cross country team picked up a pair of Northern Lakes Conference wins Wednesday in Plymouth. In the three-team NLC meet, Warsaw defeated Plymouth 15-50 and Goshen 23-35. Improving to 6-0 in the conference, Warsaw’s Jacob Poyner (17:34) and Ellis Coon (17:40) finished first and second, respectively. Warsaw will be at Saturday’s Culver Academies Invitational.

Wednesday in Plymouth

Taking on Plymouth and Goshen at the Plymouth Country Club Wednesday, the Warsaw girls cross country team picked up a pair of Northern Lakes Conference wins. Taking all five of the top spots, Warsaw defeated Plymouth 15-48 and Goshen 15-47. In the dominate win, Ashley Erba (19:43) placed first, followed by Anna Bearss (20:25), Brooke Kline (21:02), Kristin Quick (21:15) and Lilly Fleming (21:48) in second through fifth place, respectively. The Lady Tigers will be at Saturday’s New Haven Invitational, which is held at The Plex in Fort Wayne.

The Whitko girls soccer team improved its season record to 6-1-1 following its 2-0 home win over Metro Rage Wednesday. In the win over the travel club, Whitko received goals from Micaela Sylvester and Cagney Craig, while Katee Reiff had five saves in the goal. The Whitko Lady Wildcats are at Columbia City Wednesday.
