LAKEVILLE -ÊBehind Drew Shafer's record-breaking 3-under-par performance, Tippecanoe Valley won Saturday's LaVille Invitational at Sprig-O-Mint Golf Course.
The Vikings set a school record by shooting a 302, nine strokes better than the mark they set last week. Valley's nearest competitors, NorthWood and LaVille, were 32 strokes behind with 334s.
The Vikings captured the top three places, with Shafer shooting a 69, Andy Martin a 70 and Brian Love a 76.
Shafer's 69 set a new record for the invitational, topping Chris Smith's mark of 70 set in 1979.
Valley will travel to Shady Hill Golf Course in Marion for a match with Oak Hill and Whitko Tuesday.

Warsaw's varsity boys golf team took first place in the Homestead Invitational Saturday at Chestnut Hills with a team score of 330. Elkhart Memorial was second with 333, while Concord finished third with a 336. Wawasee, ranked eighth in the latest poll, shot a 348 and finished 15th. Warsaw junior Adam Johnson finished the day with a 78, the meet's second-best score. Warsaw will be at Northern Lakes Conference rival Plymouth Tuesday.
