Wawasee Gymnasts Second in Lakeland Sectional
LAGRANGE – Wawasee’s gymnastics team advanced to the Huntington North Regional by virtue of its second-place finish in the Lakeland Sectional Saturday. The Lady Warriors’ team score of 106.250 was behind only Elkhart Central’s 109.625 in the meet.
Warsaw had a score of 96.025, good for seventh place in the 11-team meet.
Reagan Atwood paced the Lady Warriors with a fourth-place finish in the all-around. She finished in a tie for first in the floor exercise, but was placed second with the chief judges’ score. Atwood was second on the beam, sixth on the bars and ninth on the vault.
Jada Parzygnot was fifth in the all-around, finishing in a tie for second on the bars with a career-best 9.10 score. She was fourth in the vault, ninth on the beam and fifth on the floor.
“We had a great day today,” Wawasee coach Nika Prather said. “We knew coming in that we had our work cut out for us if we wanted to come out on top. The girls put fouth a great effort and we finished second.
“While it was different for us since we’re used to hosting sectionals, we really came out and performed well. We have some things we need to work on and some improvements to make, but overall I think the girls did really well. They came out and just had fun, and that’s what we wanted them to do.”
The Huntington North Regional will begin at 6 p.m. Friday.

Robinson 12th, Warsaw Relay Team 16th At State
INDIANAPOLIS – Wawasee’s Brady Robinson concluded his junior season with a 12th-place finish in 1:53.66 at the IHSAA boys state swimming meet finals at the IUPUI Natatorium Saturday.
The Warsaw 200 IM relay team of junior Nick Zogbi, freshman Grant Knight, junior Evan Borchers and sophomore Alex Cook concluded their season with a 16th-place finish in 1:37.63.
Whitko Closes Out Regular Season With Win
SOUTH WHITLEY – Senior Nate Walpole scored 22 points in his final home game, leading Whitko to a 44-38 non-conference win over Heritage in a boys basketball game Saturday.
Junior River West added eight points, and sophomore Spencer Sroufe had five points and nine rebounds. Alex Robbins had three points, and Alex Bechtold, Colin Craig and Cody Swick added two points each to complete the Wildcat scoring.
Whitko finished the regular season with a 14-8 record. The Wildcats open play in the 2A Westview Sectional against Central Noble (11-13) Wednesday at about 7:30 p.m., following the Fremont-Westview game at 6 p.m. The winners of Wednesday’s games play in the semifinals around 7:30 p.m. Friday.
