Wawasee Girls Tennis Takes 4-1 Win Over Goshen
GOSHEN – Wawasee got wins from both doubles teams and in two of three singles matches to win at Goshen 4-1 in a Northern Lakes Conference girls tennis match Thursday.
Kabrea Rostochak and Kendra Doerr won in straight sets at No. 1 doubles, as did Taylor Mock and Courtney Larson at No. 2 doubles.
Sophomore Meg Heinisch and freshman Elizabeth Kleopfer won in straight sets at No. 1 and No. 3 singles, respectively.
The Lady Warrior junior varsity won six of seven matches. Winners in singles were Brianna Haessig, Aurelia Stephens, Anah Sommers and Sailor Davis. Bethany Jackson and Molly Jones won at No. 2 doubles, and Valerie Haessig and Ashley Rose won at No. 3 doubles.
Nextup for Wawasee (1-2) is the Jimtown Invitational on Saturday.
Warsaw Track Rolls
ELKHART – The Warsaw boys track team rolled to a 108.5-23.5 win in a Northern Lakes Conference meet at Elkhart Memorial Thursday.
The Tigers swept four events; the long jump, 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles and the 800. Winners were Kendal Miller in the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles, D’Andre Street in the 400, Justin Fleming in the 800, Alijah Wade in the 200, Lucas Howett in the 3,200, Eli Owen in the high jump, Hunter Metzger in the pole vault, Rane Kilburn in the long jump and John Svarnich in the discus.
The 4x800 relay team of Xavi Ramirez, Kennis Dye, Taylor Mills and Fleming won with a time of 8:34.62. The 4x100 relay team consisting of Kilburn, Will McGarvey, Wade and Tristan Larsh won in 43.53 seconds.
The team will send athletes to the Lafayette Jeff Flashes Showcase and to the Franklin Central Relays today.
Lady Tigers Tennis Blanks Eagles
COLUMBIA CITY – Liza Lewis and Ella Knight won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, leading Warsaw to a 5-0 non-conference girls tennis win over Columbia City Thursday.
Alyssa Zellers won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, as did the No. 1 doubles team of Collette Smith and Athena Schlitt. Maddie Ray and Sophia Schlitt won a pair of sets 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.
The Lady Tiger junior varsity won all nine of their matches.
Warsaw will host an eight-team varsity tournament on Saturday.
Tiger Baseball Falls Late
Warsaw’s baseball team fell to 0-2 on the season with a 10-0 loss to visiting Huntington North Thursday.
Jordan Steffensmeier had a double for Warsaw, but the Tigers were held to four hits in the game.
The Tiger junior vsristy lost to Huntington North 12-3. Joe Wilkinson had three hits, including a double, with Noah Burgh and Matt Shoemaker adding two hits each.
The freshman team earned a 13-3 win over Wabash. Zach Weaver was the winning pitcher. conner Bale, Gage Lyon and Jacob Hutcherson ahd three hits each.
Warsaw’s varsity will host Columbia City today.
Triton Wins Again
BOURBON – Triton’s girls tennis team stayed unbeaten in three matches with a 5-0 Hooisier North Athletic Conference win over North Judson Thursday.
Kolbie Mason and Siera Sauer both won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 and No. 3 singles, respectively. Quinn Downing won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, as did Hannah Wanemacher and Emma Ross at No. 1 doubles. Kaylene Slabaugh and Kendra Morris won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.
Triton will play a non-conference match at Rochester on Monday.
Whitko Moves To 7-0
AUBURN – Alex Robbins had a double among his two hits and drove in three runs, and Austin Hollowell had two hits and three RBI in Whitko’s 11-1, six-inning win at Lakewood Christian in a non-conference baseball game Thursday.
Whitko got off to a fast start, plating six runs in the first frame. The Wildcats kept the line moving, with runs scoring on six different plays.
Bailey Platt pitched five innings of one-hit ball for the win.
Now 7-0, Whitko will host Heritage for a doubleheader on Saturday.
Wawasee Rebounds With Win Over Eagles
SYRACUSE – Cayden Wegener pitched five innings and allowed one run, and Wawasee scored seven times in the fifth inning to envoke the run rule in a 11-1 win over visiting Columbia City Thursday.
Wawasee had just five hits to go with their 11 runs. Levi Baum collected hˆs first varsity hit in the game.
Wawasee (3-2) opens Northern Lakes Conference play Monday when it hosts Warsaw.
Valley’s Julian Wins
ROCHESTER – Tippecanoe Valley’s Jeremy Julian shot a 39 to win medalist honors in a Three Rivers Conference golf match with Rochester Thursday. The Vikings lost the team competition 172-207 to the Zebras.
Other scores for Valley were John Young with a 53, Cade Brouyette with a 57, Chris Schipper with a 58 and Bryston Canada with a 65.
The Vikings will play in the Marquette Catholic Invitational on Satuday at the Michigan City Municipal Golf Course.
