ELKHART -ÊThe Wawasee Warriors traveled to Elkahert to face Elkhart Memorial, the newest member of the Northern Lakes Conference Friday. Behind a 33-point performance from Erik Smith, the Crimson Chargers sent the Warriors home with a 65-54 loss.

Wawasee got off to a slow start as the Elkhart Memorial squad took a 22-10 advantage after the first quarter of play. However, Wawasee made up much of that difference in the second quarter by outscoring the Chargers 13-5 in the second frame.

Smith's 33 points led all scorers, while Andrew Packer was the lone Warrior in double figures. He poured in 16 points and pulled down six rebounds to lead Wawasee.

Wawasee (3-7, 0-3 NLC) will travel to Manchester for a non-conference game tonight. Elkhart Memorial improves to 4-8 overall and 2-1 in NLC play.

Friday in Middlebury

In a game that neither team led by more than two at the end of a quarter, Northridge's varisty boys basketball team topped visiting Northern Lakes Conference opponent NorthWood 53-51 Friday night.

The two teams were tied after one quarter, and NorthWood led 24-23 at halftime. Northridge outscored the Panthers, last year's outright NLC champion, 15-12 in the third quarter to take a 38-36 lead, and then the teams played to a 15-all stalemate in the final frame.

Northridge improves to 6-5 overall and 1-2 in NLC action, while NorthWood falls to 5-3 and 1-2.

Northridge sophomore Matt Crawford led all scorers with 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting.

NorthWood will be in action again next Friday when it hosts NLC rival Goshen, which topped Warsaw 61-49 Friday to improve to 3-0 in conference play.
