Residents from Hickory Estates subdivision were at Thursday night’s Kosciusko County Council meeting asking that their roads be repaved.
Bill Crane, a resident of the neighborhood off East CR 100N, said that in the 35 years Hickory Estates has been a subdivision the roads there have never been resurfaced.
Residents of Hickory Estates have had discussions with Kosciusko County Commissioners as well as Highway Department Superintendent Scott Tilden.
Typically, the highway department will repave roads at about an inch thickness, but Crane said that it was discussed putting the maximum resurfacing down, which is about three inches.
Crane said he was told the project would cost $90,000 and that the highway department saved that amount this winter since mild conditions allowed the department to save on expenditures.
County Administrator Ron Robinson told the council he would have something to bring before them at next month’s meeting.
“I drove through there to see how bad it is,” said councilman Bob Sanders. “We just need to find the money.”
Road repairs come from the state’s gasoline tax.
The council’s next meeting is May 10 at 7 p.m.
The council meets in the old courtroom at the Kosciusko County Courthouse.
The county’s health department received approval for $10,000 worth of seed money for its unsafe building fund.
New legislation allows for county health departments to seek for liens on properties that are deemed unsafe buildings.
Jim Haney was appointed to the Lakeland Regional Sewer District for another four-year term. He’s currently the secretary of the board.

Robinson informed the council that E & B Paving out of Anderson was awarded the contract for a roundabout at Old 30 West and Zimmer Road.
