AKRON - Hershel Jackson, 94, of 615 N. Capital Ave., Lansing, Mich., died at 2:28 a.m. Dec. 11, 2009, in Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor, St. Johns. Mich., after a brief illness.

He was born Feb. 16, 1915, in Ivyton, Ky., to Smith and Golda Ramey Jackson.

He lived in the Silver Lake and Akron communities most of his adult life. He spent the later years of his life in Michigan. He was a railroad trackman for the Erie Lackawanna Railroad and later Conrail Railroad.

He came from a large family of 18 children.

Surviving are three sisters: Delphia Hackworth, Warsaw; Amanda "Mandy" Hackworth, North Manchester; and Carma Jean Barton, Fort Wayne; four brothers: Junior (and spouse Thelma) Jackson, North Manchester; Eugene "Rick" (and spouse Doris) Jackson and Kelly B. (and spouse Lilly) Jackson, all of Wabash; Roy Jackson, South Whitley. He was preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers, Bernie, Henry, Ovie, John, Dallas, Don, Clint and Glenn Jackson; a sister, Jewel Rice; and an infant sibling.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Earl-Love Funeral Home, 811 E. Rochester St., Akron, with the Rev. Ralph Dotson officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake.

Calling is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
