MENTONE – Herbert Paul Haist, 69, of Rochester, and formerly of Mentone, died at 9:10 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2018, at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne.
He was born Aug 14, 1949, in Toledo, Ohio, to Paul R. and Eva Mae Loker Haist.
He was the city planner for Deadwood, S.D., and worked on his ranch in Sundance, Wyo.
He was a graduate of Mentone High School in 1967 and Michigan State University with an associate degree. Then he graduated from South Dakota State University with a bachelor’s degree.
He enjoyed living out west on his ranch and was an enthusiast of historic preservation.
Survivors include his mother, Eva Mae Haist, Rochester; a brother, Randy Haist, Rochester; a niece, Meredith (husband Travis) Adams, Mentone; and his constant companion, his cattle dog Belle.
He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Haist (2016); a sister, Jacalyn Haist (2017); and an infant brother.
No services will be held at this time.
Arrangements are entrusted to King Memorial Home, Mentone.
