Herbert A. “Herb” Allmon, 93, passed away at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 25, 2016, in Golden Living Center, Mishawaka. He was born July 11, 1922, in Columbiana, Ohio, to Alfred and Velva Birch Allmon. On Oct. 11, 1946, in Lisbon, Ohio, he married Margaret Martin, who survives in Warsaw. He graduated in 1941 from Fairfield High School, Columbiana. He was inducted into the United States Army Nov. 3, 1942, and entered active service Nov. 17, 1942, at Fort Hayes, Ohio. He served in World War ll as antitank gun crewman. Sgt. Herbert A. Allmon, a Silver Star recipient, was honorably discharged Oct. 27, 1945, through Indiantown Gap Military Reservation, Pennsylvania. He moved to Warsaw in 1967 from East Palestine, Ohio. He was owner and operator of Allmon Upholstery, Warsaw. He and Margaret would work side by side for 40 years. He was a member of Dutchtown Brethren Church and American Legion Post 49, Warsaw. He enjoyed gardening and farming, and loved being with his family. Also surviving are two daughters, Jane Swinehart, Warsaw, and Kathleen “Kathy” Marvel, Mishawaka; a son, Wayne (and spouse Jocy) Allmon, Decatur; a daughter-in-law, Pannee “Urai” Allmon, Thailand; 24 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; seven great- great-grandchildren; and a niece, Betty Delacruz, Pierceton. He was preceded in death by two daughters: Alice Mae Allmon, who died March 27, 1950; and Nancy McCartney, who died Jan. 14, 2016; a son, Daniel H. Allmon, who died May 30, 1990; a great-grandson, Brody Allan Fish, who died Oct. 23, 2001; three sisters: Elnora Hillberry, who died Dec. 28, 1997; Dorothy Osborne, who died Sept. 7, 1975; and Catherine Allmon, who died May 17, 1930; and two brothers: Richard Allmon, who died Dec. 31, 1926; and Wilmer Allmon, who died May 27, 1938. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Dutchtown Brethren Church, Warsaw, with Pastor Jack Worth, Dutchtown Brethren Church, Warsaw, officiating. Military graveside honors wil be conducted by American Legion Post 49 and VFW Post 1126. Burial will be in Palestine Cemetery.
