HARTFORD CITY - Helen V. Forbes, 83, died at 3:15 p.m. Oct. 2, 2007, in Blackford Community Hospital.
She was born Oct. 22, 1923, in Hartford City, to Arthur W. Smith, who was former president of Hoover Furniture Co. and the first secretary of Rural Loan and Savings Bank, and Edith Scott Smith. Her father died in 1962, and her mother died in 1983. On March 9, 1944, in Dallas, Texas, she married Robert M. Forbes, who died Jan. 1, 1984.
She grew up in Hartford City until she went to Detroit, Mich., when she was 18 years old and lived around the United States, returning to Hartford City in 1986.
She graduated from Hartford City High School in 1941, and attended business college in Detroit.
She was involved in sales throughout her life with her most recent occupation at the sales office at 3M Co., Fort Wayne. She excelled in sales and had received an award as the 3M salesperson of the year in the Midwest Region.
She enjoyed her family and friends and traveling. She was a devoted mother, wife and grandmother, and just enjoyed visiting with her family. She really enjoyed her circle of friends who joined her at the Blackford Country Club on Fridays and for pizza on Sundays at Pizza King.
She will be sadly missed by her son, Robert "Rob" G. Forbes, Hartford City; a daughter, Mrs. Larry E. (Catherine "Cathy" L.) Teghtmeyer, Lake Tippecanoe; a son-in-law, James S. (and wife Julie) Forcum, Hartford City; grandchildren: Eric C. (and wife Laura) Suchecki, Mrs. Nathan T. (Melissa F.) Danielson, Joshua E. Forcum, Mrs. Mike (Tricia M.) Welk, Laura L. Forbes, Mrs. Eric (Angela L.) Irwin, Adam R. Suchecki and Trevor S. Forbes; great-grandchildren, Makenzie M. and Bryce M. Welk and Morgan L. and Grant Suchecki; two nephews; a niece; and her dear friend, Margaret Teghtmeyer, Kosciusko County, her daughter's mother-in-law. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Constance "Connie" Ann Forcum, who died Dec. 10, 2000; a great-grandchild, Evan R. Suchecki, who died as an infant; and a sister, Ruth Elizabeth Warren.
A graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Oakwood Cemetery, 421 N. Maple Ave., Warsaw, with the Rev. Ron Horgan of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Warsaw, officiating.
Calling is from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at Keplinger Funeral Home, 509 N. High St., Hartford City.
