Helen Shumaker, 94, Pierceton, passed away at 2:20 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, 2018, in the comfort of her own home.
She was born March 6, 1924, in Wabash County, to Vernon and Myrtle Hutchison. She married Leroy Shumaker on Dec. 9, 1950, in Wooster. He preceded her Feb. 23, 1982.
She was a lifetime homemaker who enjoyed sewing, canning, being with family and helping others. She will be greatly missed.
Helen is survived by children Dennis (spouse J.J.) Shumaker, Pierceton, and Steven (companion Barb Hunt) Shumaker, Warsaw; and stepchildren Joel “Rex” Shumaker, Warsaw, and Shirley Frantz, Pierceton. In addition, 17 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren survive.
She was preceded by her parents; husband; a son, Mark Shumaker; daughter, Mary “Sue” Rupert; sisters, Mary Hutchison, Betty Mathers, Geneva Perkins and Thelma “Tootie” Lamprecht; and brothers, John and Donnie Hutchison.
Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7, in the funeral chapel, with Pastor Jack Worth officiating. Interment will be in Palestine Cemetery.
