Heavy Hearts For The Holidays

The virus doesn't care what you read or what you think
The virus doesn't care what you eat or what you drink
The virus doesn't care if you're happy or you're sad
The virus doesn't care if you're a crybaby, always mad
The virus doesn't care when you say you're not afraid
The virus doesn't care about the mistakes we've made
The virus doesn't care about your family or your name
The virus doesn't care if it's friends and neighbors who you blame
The virus doesn't care if you don't believe in a vaccine or mask
The virus doesn't care how many times nurses and doctors have to ask
The virus doesn't care if you think it's fake or true
The virus doesn't care if it kills me or it kills you
My Dad died of Covid on Palm Sunday – April Five
I dream he's back home again and that he's still alive
Memories of loved ones and friends from the past
Some of our classmates all gone way too fast
So many more questions than answers this year
There's not as much joy and not as much cheer
So here we are this winter with all the lost souls
Lost dreams of a New Year and making new goals
Let's try to respect, reflect, and understand
Be nice for Christmas – not much to demand
Breathe the free air and let sun shine on your face
Be the one who treats others with dignity and grace
As snow starts to fall and winter sets in
If we all work together it's a fight we can win!
Thanks for reading.
