Beginning today, the city of Warsaw will change the way it resolves disputes involving unsafe buildings and properties.
Instead of having the Board of Works hear cases, the city has hired a South Bend attorney to act as a mediator.
Larry Clifford is considered one of the top experts in state code enforcement issues and was hired by the city on a contractual basis.
The new city program is modeled after one used in South Bend where Clifford works.
Among the topics Clifford will review are disputes involving unsafe buildings, demolition requests and environmental nuisances, including overgrown vacant lots, said city code enforcement officer Pam Kennedy.
