Staff Report-
“Health, Wealth and Diversity” is the theme for the Aug. 2 First Friday in downtown Warsaw. The Downtown Classic Criterium bicycle race will be a highlight of the event that evening. The half-mile loop around the courthouse square will feature fast racing around four corners between 5 to 9 p.m. This is the fifth year for the bike race, which is part of the Indiana Kentucky Cup Series. There will be a kids race, and a pre-race ride open to all skill levels that will leave Trailhouse Bicycle Shop in Winona Lake. Other activities include a recycled sculpture on Buffalo Street by the alley at City Hall and the St. Regis Club. Bring your own clean bottles, cans and grocery bags to help build the art project. The new look for that alleyway also will be showcased, which came at the suggestion of Ball State architecture students. Center Stage acts include Latino Dancers at 5:30 p.m., Chinese Children at 6 p.m., the Taiko Drum Group at 6:15 p.m., the Ruby Jazar belly dancers at 7 p.m. and InClognito Dancers at 8 p.m. Other activities include health and wealth screenings, Rex’s annual breast cancer awareness beer tent and bike show, and diversity tents. Transportation will be available to take people to the carnival in the park. The event is sponsored by the Dr. Dane and Mary Louise Miller Foundation and the City of Warsaw.
