Two new part-time employees were hired by the Kosciusko County Health Board recently, health administrator Bob Weaver told the Kosciusko County Board of Health Wednesday.
Greg Turner works for the county's food inspection program and Anna Norris is an assistant to Sandy Vogel, prenatal /CSHCS Care Coordinator.
The health board reviewed a booklet from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service Health Resources and Services Administration. The booklet is a community health status report about Kosciusko County with comparisons to other counties like Kosciusko. More information on the booklet can be found on the Net at www.communityhealth.hrsa.gov
For the past four years, Weaver told the board, Joann Kolbe was retained for legal service by the health department for $3,000.
This year, Weaver said, the county "is trying to streamline" legal services and wants all the departments to use the same law firm of Valentine & Miner. Weaver said county administrator Ron Robinson asked Weaver if the health department would be willing to do that. Weaver told Robinson he would ask the board of health.
Dr. Wymond Wilson, board president, said if they get thrown in the same basket as every other department, they may not receive the same service they do with their own attorney.
Weaver said if they weren't happy with the level of service they receive, they may be able to return to Kolbe. He said he thought that another reason the county wanted to use one attorney for all departments was to save money.
The board agreed to use the legal services of Valentine & Miner.
Bob Knudsen also was reappointed to serve on the health board.
The next meeting is scheduled for March 14 at 7 p.m. in the county courthouse.
Board members include Dr. Wymond Wilson, Dr. Karen Boling, Dennis Woodward, Robert Knudsen, John W. Jones, Thomas E. Howard and Joan Darr.
