Freedom of speech is under attack in America today from opponents who favor legislation that would stop what has been commonly referred to as "hate speech." When in reality this "hate speech" is nothing more than people voicing their opinions and objections to certain issues or a particular group or organization.
For example, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Democratic Representative John Conyers of Michigan are pushing to make changes to the "Patriot Act" that would prohibit any derogatory comments or statements against Islam. This would also prohibit our airport security personnel as well as law enforcement from "profiling" any Muslim they suspect of being a terrorist to include entering any Muslim community to search or investigate suspected terror activity. What some of our lawmakers can't seem to grasp is that America is at war with an enemy who does not wear a uniform and whose mission in life is to destroy America and world domination.
During the first two weeks of February 2009, the Council on American-Islamic Relations lobbied in the halls of Congress asking our lawmakers to pass legislation that would stop profiling of Muslims in this country. The CAIR organization has been linked to supporting terror groups like Hamas and was under investigation by the FBI for such activities prior to their visit to Congress this past week. CAIR's former Board Chairman Omar Ahmad speaking to a Muslim audience in 1998 said, "Islam isn't in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant." "The Koran, the Muslim book of scripture, should be the highest authority in American."
In addition, the "Fairness Doctrine," is being considered for reinstatement by some of our Congressional leadership. The purpose of the "Fairness Doctrine" is to ensure fair and balanced reporting on issues related to news and commentary while closely monitored by the Federal Communications Commission, which is owned and operated by the U.S. Government.
There is a proposal that should the "Fairness Doctrine" be reinstated, all TV and radio broadcasting stations would be required to establish "advisory boards" who would act as watch dogs to ensure community needs and opinions are given fair treatment. The license renewal process for each broadcasting station would be based on the findings of the report. The Federal Communications Commission would then review summaries of their reports on an annual basis. In my opinion, these advisory boards could be used to silence conservative radio, TV and anyone else who desires to speak out against a particular group or organization to include our own government.
Such a policy would allow Islamic activist as well as other special interest groups and organizations the ability to silence any opposition under what would be classified as "hate speech," The U.N. has already adopted the "Hate Speech" resolution for other countries.
An example of what has been reported as "hate speech" has been directed at Mr. Geert Wilder, a lawyer from Holland who is currently pending prosecution for calling the Koran a "fascist book." Susanne Winters a lawyer from Austria was convicted for "incitement" because of her comments against the Prophet Mohammed. These are just a few examples of what I believe is coming to America. In my opinion, Islam is pushing to silence America just as Islam is trying to silence the world, while the world and America remains in denial.
